As the mother of a 20-year-old son with autism who relies on Medicaid services being cut, I don’t care for Beshear’s finger pointing. I care about whether my son will have his therapist next week.
This afternoon, like many Kentuckians, I received an email from Gov. Andy Beshear’s communications office. The subject line read, “The General Assembly’s Senseless and Avoidable Budget Cuts Are Hurting Kentuckians.” As the mother of a 20-year-old son with profound autism, my heart skipped a beat. I am all too familiar with the terrifying reality of service cuts. My life is dictated by them.
But as I read the governor’s words — watching him point the finger squarely at the Republican supermajority in the General Assembly — my anxiety turned into a deep, exhausted anger.
